Not Your Mother's Beach Babe #NYMBeachBabe Shampoo and Conditioner Review from Surfsup Voxbox

Recently through Influenster I got my first ever Voxbox. If your not familiar with Influenster you can learn more in my post Here and if your wondering what else I got to sample you can see everything I got in my Surfs up Voxbox Here

I was lucky enough to be one of the many who got Shampoo and Conditioner to sample (others received mascara). I received a 1 fl. oz. bottle of Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Texturizing Shampoo and a 1 fl. oz. bottle of Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Texturizing Conditioner.
(Photo: Mine)
I have walked by this brand many times in the store but never really took the time to look at it or try it. I always just assumed it would be a very expensive brand but the bottles (their travel size) shown about are $3 each and it only costs $6 each for the full size (8 fl. oz. bottles). You can usually get a good deal on these products if you go to Ulta (especially if you receive their adds with the coupons on them).
The purpose of the Beach Babe Shampoo and Conditioner is to give you beautiful, texturized, beachy waves. Both are infused with coconut oil and sea kelp extract and have a nice beachy smell. They both are also sulfate free and safe for all hair types. The Shampoo works to create tousled waves while hydrating and gently cleansing your hair. The conditioner works to create wavy volume while detangling and hydrating your hair. They also have a texturizing sea salt spray that you can purchase to go along with these products (I bought that later to try).

I wasn't sure how well just the shampoo and conditioner would work alone on my hair but one evening I was short on time and had to take a quick shower and get ready for a wine tasting event in a short amount of time. I decided to go ahead and try the shampoo and conditioner out and brought a hair tie in case my hair ended up turning into a mess. Luckily I didn't need the hair tie!
I took my normal shower and used the shampoo focusing on my roots by applying a small amount to my ends. Then I used the conditioner focusing on my ends and apply a small amount to my roots. I let the conditioner sit in my hair (I use a clip to clip it up and keep it out of my way) while I used my body wash, which is what I typically do with any conditioner. At the end of my shower I took my hair down and rinsed it out. I jumped out of the shower, squeezed the extra water out of my hair, brushed it out and towel scrunched it with the towel a little to help get the extra water out. Then I quickly finished getting ready threw on a dress and ran out the door.
I tried not to touch my hair much on the car ride there and let it just dry and do its own thing. I was really impressed because for once it didn't end up being a frizzy mess. I have long naturally wavy/ loose spiral curly hair and this product worked great leaving me with more wave then curl. Depending on your hair type your hair may come out more curly or just a little wavy. I have seen other pictures/ reviews on instagram and noticed some straight haired people didn't have much luck with it but some also did. One girl said she had pin straight hair but was able to get a little wavy and texture going with the shampoo and conditioner (I saw a picture along with it that showed a cute slightly wavy style).

The shampoo itself is a little thicker, one girl complained she had to use the entire bottle for her short (a little shorter then shoulder length hair). I've been able to get about two uses so far and I think I have enough for one more use in my samples. (so three washes total and my hair goes down to atleast my mid back). I found that its better to take a glob of shampoo and tap it on different sections of your head rather then glob it all in one spot and try massage it throughout your hair and scalp. The conditioner is really smooth and I feel that it spreads pretty easily throughout your hair.

I really enjoyed the scent of this product, its very beachy with a coconut scent to it. Some complained it was a "manufactured" beach smell but I don't feel that way. I think that its kind of difficult to make a scent strong enough that it will remain in your hair after rinsing the product out but not too strong that when you smell it straight from the bottle it wont smell "manufactured". The smell actually reminds me of my childhood. When I was younger American Girl came out with the dog "Coconut" I believe. One of my friends had the little toy dog and it had a coconut smells almost exactly the same as this shampoo from what I remember. So every time I smell my hair I think of my childhood and playing with the little American Girl dog puppy :]

Here are a few pictures from the night I first tried NYM Beach Babe shampoo and conditioner. I apologize the pictures were taken on my phone by other people at night time so they didn't come at as nice or as clear as when I take them during the day. They are also from my instagram so that might have affected the quality a little bit. (Feel free to follow me on instagram, I post a lot of what I'm sampling on there, @auntie_m_25)

Overall I was really happy with these products. My hair responded well to them, I loved how easy they were to use and the way my hair looked after I used them. I also loved the scent and the price! I will definitely be buying these in the future. I already went out and purchased the Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray and the Way to Grow Long and Strong Shampoo and Conditioner which is supposed to help keep your hair moisturized and healthy so you can grow it out quicker.

Texturizing Sea Salt Spray
(Photo: Mine)

It has a nice little blue thing on it that you can position to make it usable (open) or locked so it wont spray if its in your bag! I thought this was one of those things you pulled off and threw away at first but luckily I realized it was supposed to stay attached before I broke it.

(Photo: Mine)

I haven't really gotten a chance to try out the texturizing spray and really decide how I feel about it but I want to also try it with the Beach Babe Shampoo and Conditioner and see if I notice any difference.

I really like the Way to Grow Long and Strong shampoo and conditioner. The smell isn't bad but its not my number one favorite shampoo scent I've ever had, it is pleasant though. My hair feels a lot softer and healthier since using the product. I've only been using it for maybe two or three weeks so its still a little soon to tell if its helping my hair grow but I have read some really good reviews from others saying that it has helped them. Its important to remember that the products not making your hair grow any faster, its just keeping your hair healthy so that there's less breakage which causes your hair to appear to grow slower.

I plan on continuing to try the different Not Your Mother's products. I've really liked everything I've tried so far. I really want to try their shampoo, conditioner and products for curly hair because I have heard a lot of great reviews from others so I am interested to see how it would work on my hair. I bought the three products shown last from Meijer. My Meijer did not have any of the curly hair products so I'm hoping to stop by Ulta one day after work and hopefully pick some up.

If you get a chance to try any of the Not Your Mother's products leave me a comment and tell me what you tried and what you think!

My Surfs Up Vox Box

This June I signed up for Influenster and a few weeks later received my first ever Voxbox! If your not familiar with Influenster and/or want to sign up check out my earlier post: Influenster

(Photo: Mine from my instagram @auntie_m_25)

I was selected to receive the Surfs Up Voxbox and sample and review the products inside. The Voxbox consisted of 5 different products. One of the 5 was either a Cover Girl Bombshell Curvaceous by Lash Blast Mascara or Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. My box ended up containing the NYM shampoo and conditioner which I quickly fell in love with.

(Photo: Mine from Instagram)

Everything that came in my Box:
 1) A coupon for a FREE Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit along with a 2nd coupon for $1 off another Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit. I don't have the 2nd coupon pictured but here is one I took in Meijer while grabbing my free kit.

(Photo: Mine from Instagram)

I did have to make another purchase along with this which was juice because you need juice to mix with the kit. The kits typically retail around $2.99-3.49. Each kit makes 2 eight ounce smoothies. All you have to do is add juice (I believe it was 8 ounces of juice to make up the 2 smoothies) and blend. I was able to use my magic bullet to make this and accidently did the entire bag = 2 smoothies. It fit but I would recommend splitting it in half and doing one smoothie at a time, especially if your going to share. The kits are made up of yogurt and fruit. They are fat free and gluten free and each kit includes a "healthy antioxidant boost, one full serving of fruit and 100% daily value of Vitamin C" (taken from the product information on the insert provided in my Voxbox). They also make dairy free Fruit and Veggie smoothies.

2) Hawaiian Tropic Skin Hydration After Sun Lotion (2 FL. OZ. Bottle)

(Photo: Mine)

Back Panel
(Photo: Mine)

These usually retail for about $2.99 for a 2oz bottle (which is what I received and what's shown in the pictures above) and $8.99 for an 8oz bottle. Here's what the Voxbox insert says about this product: "Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration is the first and only after sun product that combines ribbons of gel and lotion to leave your skin feeling luxurious and refreshed. Features & Benefits: 24 hours of luxurious moisturization with refreshing hydrating ribbons; Lightweight feel; Coconut papaya fragrance; Refreshing sun-tired skin with soothing aloe gel."

3) First Aid Shot Therapy in "Berry" flavor
This product usually retails for about $2.99. I received one for pain but they also make one for heart-burn/upset stomach relief I believe. What the product insert said: "First Aid Shot Therapy "FAST" is an FDA compliant liquid pain relief (drinkable) shot. Common uses for FAST are headache/migraine, sore muscles, back pain and hangover headache".

4)SinfulColors Professional Nail Polish
This stuff I have used many times before (I've received it for a few different samplings through Pinchme and other sites) and I LOVE it! It retails for $1.99 which is amazing because its a million times better then more expensive brands of nail polish. You can find it in a lot of stores (check out their Website for a complete list of stores in US and Canada, you can also find all their colors/collections). I know for sure that you can find SinfulColors in Meijer and Wallgreens. Here is a picture from my instagram that I took yesterday. It shows my manicure after a week of wear, no chips! Just a little wear at the tips which is expected but nothing real noticeable.

5) Last but not least Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Shampoo and Conditioner. This was my first time trying this brand and I loved it! Its not very expensive either which is a major plus. It retails for about $3 for a travel size which is what I received (1 fl. oz) and $6 for a full size which is 8 fl. oz. This set is sulfate free and safe for all hair types to use. The shampoo helps to create tousled waves, hydrate and gently cleanse while the conditioner detangles, hydrates and adds wavy volume. The products are infused with coconut oil and sea kelp extract and they have a nice beachy smell to them. They help to create beautiful beachy waves. For the first time ever I was able to run out of the house without product in my hair and my hair still looking styled after using this shampoo and conditioner. They also sell a sea salt spray if you want to enhance the textured beach style or achieve the look without the shampoo and conditioner.

Fourth of July and McCormick Grill Mates

This forth of July I got to sample McCormick Grill Mates through Crowdtap. They sent me a TON of stuff to try out. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to try everything yet but I plan on updating this post as my family and friends get a chance to try all the different products.

McCormick sent a variety of Seasoning mixes, Rubs, sauces and seasonings along with a McCormick Apron to wear while we were out grilling.

The Seasoning Mixes they sent me were:
  • 1 Steakhouse Burgers- Smoky Applewood Seasoning Mix
  • 1 Steakhouse Burgers- Classic Burger Seasoning Mix
  • 1 Steakhouse Burgers- Steakhouse Mushroom Seasoning Mix
The Rubs they sent me included:
  • 1 Tennessee Smokehouse BBQ Rub
  • 1 Memphis Pit BBQ Rub
The Marinades they sent me:
  • 1 Smokein' Sweet Tea Marinade

 All the goodies

My family was already planning on having a little cook out for the 4th of July so this sampling worked out nicely. By the time I was excepted and received the package my mom already had the menu planned and the food bought so so far the only thing we got to try was the Worcestershire Pub Burger Seasoning.

Mom of course already had the burgers made so we just added the seasoning on top. Dad said that this was a little hard to do because the seasoning chunks were so large, unlike salt which is a lot smaller and is easier to get to stick on food. Next time since well have the seasoning before making the burgers, we want to mix the seasoning in before shaping the patties. Overall my family really enjoyed the Worcestershire Pub Burger Seasoning. My mom said that it had a good spicy flavor but wasn't too spicy or overpowering. My 3 year old niece and 4 year old nephew even enjoyed it which says a lot since kids can be pretty picky.

Some of the family enjoying their McCormick Burgers and my nephew of course making silly faces because that's all he does in pictures now.

Seriously I cant get him to take a normal picture

My sister made a pretty dessert, we were in a hurry and had to frost it while it was still warm which is why its falling apart.

We had fun getting a chance to spend some time with Nana riding around on the golf cart, with Holly her dog of course.

We also had a great time riding around on our bicycles. Lolli and Pops drive way is much bigger and a lot more fun to ride on.

We had a really nice 4th and enjoyed trying some McCormick seasoning. The burgers were great and everyone's excited to try the rest of the McCormick products along with the recipes McCormick sent along. I truly would recommend McCormick Grill Mates next time your thinking about grilling. Here are some recipes McCormick included with the samples to give you some inspiration on what to try:

Kleenex Brand Believers Sampling

Another Crowdtap Sample and Share! This past month I received a GIANT box of Kleenex Thick and absorbent tissues. (210 2-ply white tissues).

Photo of the bottom of the box (I got for free through crowdtap)
(Photo: Mine)

I know what your thinking, oh boy a box of tissues, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this sample and share.

Like many I have used Kleenex brand tissues before and I am a regular user of their Cool Touch tissues that are enriched with aloe and moisturizers.

Bottom of that box (This is one that I purchased and already had in my room)
(Photo: Mine)

First lets talk about the design of the box. Did you notice both pictures of the info are taken from the bottom of the box? The remaining sides of the box (all of which would be visible when sitting out on a table in your home) are kept simple and decorative with only a small, tasteful Kleenex logo on the right hand corner.

"Side" view of my Cool Touch box, notice this one says "Cool Touch" on the sides but it is still small, simple and tasteful.
(Photo: Mine)

I really like this design because you can leave the tissues out for convenient use without having a giant advertisement sitting in your home. The designs are pretty cute and fun too and they have so many its easy to find ones that go well with your décor.

The free sample they sent me actually ended up working fairly well with my blue room
(Photo: Mine from my instagram: auntie_m_25)

I also like that all the info is on the bottom so you still know what type of tissues you bought when it comes time to buy some new ones.

I'll tell you a little bit about the Cool Touch tissues that I already use regularly and why I love them before I get into the new tissues. If your like me and suffer from allergies or maybe your one of those people who gets sick quite often, you know how frustrating it is to deal with a red, sore nose on top of all your other awful symptoms. Tissues and toilette paper can be so rough on your nose when your constantly having to blow. I remember all the nights of covering my nose in Aquaphor and wincing in pain as the moisturizer hit my irritated skin hoping that the following morning my nose would feel better, only to get worse again after all the tissue use the next day. I no longer have to deal with this thanks to Kleenex Cool Touch tissues (which is why they are the only tissues I buy!). The aloe and moisturizers help to protect your nose and prevent the soreness and irritation. When I first bought these to try my nose was actually sore from using other tissues and these started to help make it less sore and irritated. I also love the color of the box, have you noticed I really like blue?

Now onto the thick and absorbent box I got for free to sample. When I go it I was thinking oh great normal tissues, what am I possibly going to say about these? I thought they were going to be the typical flimsy tissue that appears soft but can be rough on your nose after constant use. I was absolutely wrong. It started when I was sitting on the floor of my room playing on my Ipad while I left a homemade facemask sit on my face for 20 minutes. The facemask had a mixture with honey in it which can get pretty runny after its been sitting on your face with your body heat warming it up for awhile. I keep a wash cloth on hand, usually tucked in my shirt, for drips but was leaning over and not paying attention and a big glop dropped down onto my carpet. The box of tissues was the only thing within reach so I grabbed one and went to try to wipe up the glob thinking the tissue would only tear up in my hands but to my surprise it held together while I cleaned up the sticky mess. I later tried using the tissues as a napkin when I forgot to bring one up with my food and they actually worked well. I would have never thought I would use a tissue as a napkin.
Now you might be thinking that these tissues have to be too rough to use on your nose if they can withstand cleaning up sticky messes, but they are still plenty soft and gentle. I have been using multiple throughout the day as regular tissues while I have been dealing with my regular seasonal allergies and haven't had any irritation.

I also decided to try out the tissues for removing nail polish. I had 2 layers of a color, plus layers of red, blue and a glitter polish (for the forth of July, I tried to be festive and do a cute design but of course it didn't turn out very cute) The tissues actually held up pretty well through all the scrubbing which is especially surprising with the rough glitter polish that typically tears up cotton balls. Near the end it started tearing up a bit. I still prefer cotton balls for removing nail polish but I would grab these tissues next if I was out.

(Photo: Mine from my Instagram)

Overall I was very pleased with the quality of these tissues and plan on buying them in the future. I do recommend Kleenex tissues. They have so many types and cute style boxes (have you seen the fun little letter block ones, everyone keeps spelling things out with them in the stores).  They also have cute little packs that you can easily slide into your pocket or purse for on the go (Which some other crowdtap users received to review so watch out for those) as well as boxes that easily fit between the seats of your car for on the go use.

Thank you Kleenex and Crowdtap for another sample and share!
